Hamburger Containerboard is Austria's Leading Company in Lower Austria

Hamburger wins first place for large companies in Lower Austria thanks to e-commerce boom and prioritization of site protection

Pitten, October 20, 2023 - At this year's "Austria's Leading Companies" (ALC) Awards on October 17, W. Hamburger GmbH in Baden triumphed once again. The company, which belongs to the Prinzhorn Group and is based in Pitten, secured first place in the category "Large Companies in Lower Austria", which was awarded by "Die Presse" in partnership with "KSV1870" and "PricewaterhouseCoopers" (PwC).

 "The e-commerce boom has generated significant demand for our packaging products made from recovered paper, despite the current economic difficulties caused by high inflation," says Josef Krenn, plant manager of W. Hamburger GmbH. "Our success is not only due to our business strategies, but most importantly to the dedication and flexibility of our 306 employees, whose adaptability during the pandemic was critical to our economic success."

Always committed to sustainability and the circular economy, Hamburger Containerboard places an important focus on environmental friendliness and energy efficiency. "Our site in Pitten is "best in class" in terms of specific energy consumption. We have benefited from the energy efficiency measures of the last 15 years and will continue to work intensively on energy transformation and the next steps of decarbonization," says Josef Krenn.

Hamburger Containerboard in Pitten continuously applies its expertise in the circular economy and looks back on a 170-year company history. With an annual production of 450,000 tons of paper made entirely from recovered paper and a turnover of 287 million euros last year, the company underlines its leading role in the field of sustainable paper production in Europe.
