Visit from students of the Master's programme "Process Automation" at the Westphalian University of Applied Sciences

The Westphalian University of Applied Sciences is one of the most popular universities of applied sciences in North Rhine-Westphalia. With campuses in Bocholt, Recklinghausen and Gelsenkirchen the university offers a wide range of courses in the technical and legal and management fields.

In the context of a possible CSR project with the Department of Electrical Engineering - specialising in energy technology and renewable energy, we got into conversation with the Dean Prof. Dr. Rüter and the Head of Studies Prof. Dr. Schneider.

On 30.05.2023, 12 students and the Dean Prof. Dr. Rüter visited our paper mill in Gelsenkirchen with the focus on "Process automation in changing times - Future Industry 4.0".

After a welcome by our plant manager Nadira Husanovic, a short round of introductions and initial questions from the students, the group was guided through the mill by the Head of EMSR Simon Schleich and the Head of Approval Management and Construction Oliver Schan.

Due to the grown structure of the last 50 years and the continuous modernisation of the plant areas, the students were shown various stages of process automation.

Of particular interest were the planning and projecting, implementation and commissioning in the ongoing production process, as well as during shutdowns. The students were very impressed by the many technical solutions in the industrial sector, as well as the work of the EMSR department in connection with production.

We hope that the Hamburger Containerboard Gelsenkirchen helped to keep the students' motivation high for the crucial stage of their studies and to show them professional perspectives for the future.

We look forward to further cooperation with the Westphalian university.
